EL-SAYED: “I do. You know, I’ve had a lot of conversations with folks in the community, and we understand that when it comes to the question of Israel and our foreign policy, we’re going to have legitimate spaces of disagreement. I’m never going to stop fighting for equal rights to Palestinian self-determination. But also, when a community is targeted as a function of their identity, in what could have been a deeply devastating attack — thank God it was not — sometimes you just have to say that is wrong, full stop. We can talk about context later, but if the context comes out as if you’re justifying that attack, it’s throwing salt in wounds. And so, that was a mistake. And to folks who were offended by that, I actually apologize.”
