James Talarico: ‘We Are Talking About Saving People’s Lives’ as Health Care Costs Skyrocket

TALARICO: "And a lot of them are dropping off of it because of that skyrocketing price and, and sometimes these policy conversations about health care get wonky. We talk about premiums and deductibles and insurance companies and PBMs. But I think it’s really important to remember what the end result is. And that is our neighbors dying unnecessarily. The, the estimates for the big ugly bill was that it was going to lead to 51,000 Americans dying needlessly every year because of a lack of care and a lack of coverage. And so I just wanna ground us in the in the humanity of this conversation because we are talking about saving people’s lives. You, you know that my faith is central in my public service and if you go back and read the New Testament, even if you’re not a Christian, even if you’re not religious, go back and see what Jesus spends most of his time doing. It’s not preaching, it’s not teaching. It’s healing. It’s healing people.”
