Calif. AG Bonta on Limiting Mail-In Voting: ‘This Is About Helping the Republicans Win, Not Respecting the Will of Voters’
RUSH EXCERPT:
BONTA: "I anticipate that likelihood, and I think that the federal government wants it there. I think they feel that they have a good chance of being able to prevail with their argument, even though every court that has ruled on this thus far has found against them, no court has ruled in favor of them. Substantively. As you rightfully mentioned, the Supreme Court’s order earlier this week was procedural and procedural only, even though Mr. Trump seemed to completely misunderstand it or misrepresent it still has no interest in actually understanding the law. And as you mentioned also, this is blatant partisanship. This is about helping the Republicans win, not respecting the will of voters and allowing all eligible voters to participate in our democratic elections. So we’ll see what happens in the next few days. But there is also a concept in the law that Purcell rule, which says that courts, when elections are so close, shouldn’t be issuing rulings that interfere with the administration of elections when they’re so near and imminent and around the corner, because it can do what is happening here, create chaos."
