Megan Messerly on Midterms: Republicans Know and Continue to Believe That Trump Is Their Strongest Messenger

MESSERLY: "The president absolutely is. That’s so right, bret. I mean we’ve seen, to your point, the cabinet fan out across the country, but when I talk to Republicans, they know and continue to believe that the president is their strongest messenger. This is what folks are going to be watching for as we head into the midterm convention in Dallas in September. I talked to Republicans who say there are a lot of these low propensity voters, folks who turned out to vote for the president in 2024, this he are not the kind of folks that typically vote in midterm elections, those are the people the president is uniquely poised to speak to. They want to hear from him. They want to hear about what he’s done to follow through on his campaign promises from 2024. The challenge, of course, here as we’ve discussed is the president’s approval ratings are not where a lot of Republicans would like them to be depending on what you look at. You know, they’re in the 40s or just a little bit below 40. This is a challenge for Republicans going into the midterms. So on one hand they really want the president out there selling their message. On the other, they know that the president can, in some cases, especially with some more moderate voters, be a liability."
