Abdul El-Sayed: ‘The Affordability Crisis Is Destroying People’s Dreams’

EL-SAYED: “Well, Katy, I’ll tell you. I met a guy. His kid is a great baseball player. The scouts told him, you know, he might actually be able to go all the way. And he can’t afford to put his kid in baseball. This is one way the affordability crisis is destroying people’s dreams, let alone groceries and gas and health care. And you ask yourself, like, look at our primary. We got outspent 11 to 1, $70 million of outside spending against me, $70 million. What you could do with $70 million, insane things for people. But we’re spending it on politics now. Why? Where’s that money coming from? Almost always special interests that are largely paid into by billionaires or corporations spending their money to rig a system to make sure that corporations get to do what they want with our politics. And I think it’s important for us to understand how this happened, where it came from. My campaign is about getting money out of politics, putting money in your pocket, passing Medicare for all. If we are not willing to stand up against Citizens United, that means we’re not willing to stand up for health care. We’re not willing to stand up to end endless wars.”
