Zac Brown: Dolly Parton Was ‘the Closest Thing to an Angel Walking Around Earth’
EXCERPT:
BROWN: "Getting to work with Dolly is such a dream of mine. We played a few things together before, but getting to be just in the studio one-on-one with her, the energy that she had, the integrity she always kept, the authenticity, and I think that’s why she’s so beloved, not only one of the most talented humans on the planet, but one of the funniest. And she always was herself. She had so much courage to just be authentic no matter what. And anybody that would try to talk to her, and, you know, ask her questions about the way she would dress or act or whatever, she had that best comebacks all-time. But she was just absolutely a legend and an angel. I mean, the closest thing to an angel walking around on the earth. And I remember when I got back her vocal, I sent her a song, I sent her a few songs, and I said, 'I would love to do a song with you. I had one that I wrote for my kids called 'Butterfly,' and I thought of you because a butterfly's been an icon in her branding forever. And I remember the voicemail, I saved it, of her saying, 'We got ourselves a number one song. Don't you give that song to anybody else.' And I just — I just love her. There will never be another Dolly Parton."
