Hochul Blames Trump’s Rhetoric for Devastating NY-Canada Cross-Border Tourism: ‘Stop, Mr. President’

HOCHUL: “All of us in the states who border Canada, particularly New York, here we have 430-mile border with Canada, we want to heal the relationship, we want to say that’s not us, except Donald Trump represents our government to them. And so only when he is gone can they understand that that’s never who we were, we were never hostile to Canada. We appreciate the synergy that we have between, you know, New York State in particular and Canada, the provinces of Ontario and Quebec. I’m doing what I can. You know, we literally — we launched a campaign again in New York to try and entice visitors to come over and have discounts and, you know, flying flags and just saying, 'Hey, we love you.' But I can understand, you know, you try to make my state, if I was Canadian, make us the 51st state, that’s pretty abusive. That’s pretty abusive to someone who had been a longtime friend. So I’m just asking, would you just stop? You know, look, divert your attention to something. Just stop, Mr. President. Just leave us alone. Try to start putting the genie back in the bottle so we can have the relationships that were once normal through my entire life. I don’t know how long it’s going to take, but we’re not there yet. They’re not coming over."
