Speaker Johnson on the Midterm Convention: ‘The President’s Going to Look Right in the Camera and Say, I Am on the Ballot’
EXCERPT:
JOHNSON: “The president called me two nights before Thanksgiving last fall and he said, 'Mike, we got to do a midterm convention.' And I said, 'That's not a thing.' And he said, 'Make it a thing.' OK. So we're going to do a midterm convention, September 9th and 10th. First time in history, any party's ever done this. We're going to Dallas, Texas you all. It could have been anywhere in the country. (Cheering and Applause) And we're going to have everybody there. Two nights of media on national television. We're going to parade all of our stars across the stage. We're going to highlight the great work of people like Monica De La Cruz. OK? We're going to talk about what we've done for the people. And then the president's going to look right into the camera and say, 'I am on the ballot, OK?”
