Michael Feinberg: Hegseth Is Not a Good Leader; Good Leaders Don’t Make Fun of Their Subordinates’ Physical Standards

FEINBERG: “You know, previous secretaries of Defense almost invariably came from a background where they managed large organizations. This is true even for the less successful ones like Robert McNamara or Donald Rumsfeld. They knew how to steer a huge ship. Pete Hegseth, on the other hand, you know, he was in the military, but he only reached the level of O-3, a major, which is not a very senior rank. And he then became a television host. He has literally zero experience running anything, even 1/20th of the size of the Defense Department. And he’s also not a good leader. A good leader inspires the people below him or her. He or she does not critique their facial hair or call them fat and make fun of their physical standards. You lead by example and you lead by rhetoric. Right now we have nobody doing that, and we apparently have nobody managing the day-to-day operations.”
