GOP Rep. Sessions: I Think Gov. Abbott Has Done the Right Thing with Pausing Data Center Approvals
EXCERPT:
SESSIONS: “So the governor, and through what’s called ERCOT, which is our regulatory commission, became aware of this. And I seemingly, just like you, could have seen this coming. I saw it coming, and we had been attempting to gather together data and information. It came to one point, and that is at ERCOT, with the governor, and they really recognized there was a circumstance where there would be five times the availability of electricity that would be available if these data centers came online. So they’re going to now pause them, and then they are going to have to come back and figure out, how do we get the electricity without consumers being affected, without a brownout? It’s been a hot summer. We need — I think the governor has done the right thing. I am surprised that it took them this long to — to figure this out.”
