William Lawrence Says He Was Proud To Be Arrested for Protesting a Pipeline

‘I am proud to have taken that stand’

EXCERPT:

LAWRENCE: “In 2010, the Canadian oil company Enbridge was responsible for one of the largest oil spills in United States history in the Kalamazoo River, which had devastating impacts on the environment and on people's health. And I participated in a peaceful protest to prevent the expansion of that pipeline at which I was arrested. That was a dozen years ago. I'm proud to have taken that stand. I've said publicly that, you know, the goal was to prevent the pipeline from risking a bigger spill in the future. We did not succeed in that mission because it still is pumping oil on a daily basis.”
