Gov. Wes Moore: Affordability and Accessibility Should Not Have To Be Mutually Exclusive Goals
RUSH EXCERPT:
MOORE: "Yes. And also, I think you‘re seeing that not just in the health care industry. I think you‘re seeing that across industries. You know, right now we‘re watching how the stock market continues to explode. We‘re watching record highs within the stock market, particularly in equities, particularly driven by like seven different companies. And at the same time, you‘re watching unemployment go up. And so what have we done inside of the state of Maryland, for example, you take a look at utilities. We pass utility relief act in Maryland, which didn‘t only put hundreds of dollars back in the pockets of the people of Maryland, but we also put restrictions on, on executive pay as well, that if you look at what happened in the state of Maryland for for health care, that, you know, we‘ve been one of the most aggressive states in the country when it comes to things like affordability and accessibility, having the having our to have our prescription drugs affordability board, which is bringing down the cost of prescription drugs for our people in Maryland and specifically our seniors, being able to make sure we have greater access to, to, to not just prescription drugs, but also generic drug access that can come back and help to bring the cost down and being able to make sure that we can get more people covered and having a unique pay back model with our hospitals and our institutions. And so I think if people want to really understand how we can drive down these costs in a real and a scalable way, look to the states, because I think the states are actually doing an important are really doing important work. And our states really are becoming these laboratories of saying that affordability, accessibility should not have to be mutually exclusive goals. And there has to be accountability for our executives as well."
