David Drucker on MAHA: I’m Surprised That Trump and the W.H. Have Put Roadblocks in Front of RFK Jr.

DRUCKER: "Well, no, I’m not that surprised. Well, I just put it this way, Jackie. I’m surprised in a sense that that Trump and the White House have put roadblocks in front of him because they tapped him for this gig, in part because he was such a vital part of the campaign as the president cobbled together an impressive but narrow win in 2024. But, you know, if you paid any attention to what RFK Jr. has believed and pushed over, you know, the past 25 years or so, None of what he’s trying to do as health and human services secretary should be a surprise to anybody. So in the one on the one hand, not surprising that they brought him into the administration, but on the other hand, it it it makes sense that the administration would try to put the brakes on a lot of what he’s trying to do, because even though this, you know, so-called maha base was an important part of the 2024 coalition, it’s really not a major, major part. Right. It’s a dedicated but small sliver of the coalition. And the president has to answer to a lot more voters who are concerned about a lot more things, food prices being one, you know, but also just this idea of a nanny state that’s trying to tell you what you can eat and when you can eat it and how you can eat it. I mean, these are the sort of thing Republicans generally were not for over the years, but a lot of voters, you know, while they support in concept healthy eating and healthy food, the same way they support lower budget deficits, you start telling them what to do and, you know, and get very frustrating for them."
