Zadrozny on Charlie Kirk: It Open an Opportunity for Dozens of Creators That I Tracked, Who’ve Built a Small Empire on the Backs of Conspiracies
RUSH EXCERPT:
ZADROZNY: "I mean, I’ve spent 10 years tracking conspiracy theories on the right. And so when this happened, when Charlie Kirk was murdered in September of last year, it did something sort of different than all of the others I’ve been tracking. And it just it really opened the floodgates in a way that I wasn’t quite prepared for from within the MAGA movement itself. So there’s this sort of unwritten rule. They joke that it’s, you know, Reagan’s 11th commandment, which is thou shalt not thou shalt not speak ill of another Republican. But with the second Trump presidency, because it’s been based so much on the conspiracy theories of a stolen election, that Covid was, you know, a bioweapon, like all of these really wild conspiracy theories. What happened when Charlie was killed is that everybody started infighting within the MAGA community. It really broke apart America first versus MAGA, and it’s just been infighting for the last 11 months. At the same time, what we saw was really the creation of this cottage industry of conspiracy theorists. Like before, you might have had Alex Jones, and then we got Candace Owens, but this sort of broke open an opportunity for dozens and dozens of creators that I tracked along the last 10 months who’ve built businesses, a small empire, really, on the backs of these conspiracy theories."
