Mark Bederow: Mangione Could Receive Life Sentence for ‘Cold-Blooded Killing’ of Brian Thompson

‘It was a cowardly act’

RUSH EXCERPT:

BEDEROW: “There is. And he can offer remorse at sentencing. And, you know, he‘ll get a couple points off his sentencing guidelines, score. But, um, you know, his fans need to realize he‘s going away for decades. Um, the guideline range, the parties have already agreed, uh, amounts out at the bottom end to about 24 years and many more beyond that. And of course, the maximum sentence calls for life. So the judge already can give a presumptively valid sentence of anywhere from 24 to 30 something years, and there‘s going to be no basis to appeal that, just based on what‘s already happened. But when you factor in all the aggravating circumstances here, you mentioned it earlier. I mean, this was a cold blooded killing, uh, with stalking and predatory behavior. It was a cowardly act. He shot a father in the back. And simply because, you know, he was the CEO of a controversial health care company doesn‘t afford someone the right to shoot someone in the back."
