Mara Gay: Americans Are Starting to Ask, Why Are Our Dollars Going to Foreign Wars that We Don’t Support?

GAY: "In addition to a global tragedy, it’s a huge political liability for the Republicans heading into the midterms. I don’t know that we’ve talked enough, too, about the impact that brilliant ads like that are going to have, and this endless war concept is going to have on younger voters, and specifically on millennial voters who have, let’s remember, already lived through the war in Iraq. Some of them served in the war in Iraq. Some of my friends did in Afghanistan. And I think the juxtaposition of these headlines of some communities knowing that their service members have been deployed in a military where the morale is already low, by the way, because of Hegseth's campaign of intimidation and exclusion in the military and because of a lot of his stewardship, it’s already low morale, but the juxtaposition of that, alongside Americans already struggling economically and wondering why, at a time when they are being — just struggling at the gas pump, to pay their rent, but also worried about their kids and their future, you know, Americans are starting to ask, 'Why are our dollars going to foreign wars that we don’t support, where Americans can’t even get health care here at home?' So the Republicans have a lot to answer for. And, you know, the dynamic by which Republicans cannot contest anything that this president says or does puts them in an even more difficult position on the campaign trail."
