Chicago Mayor Johnson: ICE Raids Are ‘Some of the Same Attacks that People Have Experienced in the Civil Rights Movement’

JOHNSON: "Well, as many people know, the economic wealth gap between those who have and those who are struggling has widened. Right. And so in some regards, certainly there’s progress that has been made. But in many regards, there is still, you know, clear disparities that exist when we talk about unemployment, particularly amongst the black community. When you think about the ice raids that have been moved by this administration, the Trump Administration. These are some of the same attacks that people have experienced in the civil rights movement. And so now the Trump Administration is going after voting rights, right? So all the gains that we made, this, the Trump Administration is working to roll that back because, look, he’s intimidated by the hope and the aspirations of working people. And that’s why it’s going to continue to take working people across this country.”
