Democratic Socialist Chris Rabb: ‘The Reason We Have a Direct Election of U.S. Senators Is Because of Socialists’

RABB: "Well, we‘ll know on Tuesday. Um, one is we have to make sure, uh, if if he indeed wins the um the primary, which I believe he will, I‘ll be, I‘ll be there supporting him. Um canvasing leading up to Election Day, um or primary day. Um leaving on Monday. But yes, I think it‘s entirely possible. And also you mentioned, you know, a kind of a radical pillar with regard to abolishing the Senate. That‘s not new. But the reason we have a direct election of U.S. Senators is because of socialists. That was moderates' option to keep abolition off the table. We did not rewrite the Constitution. We amended the Constitution to allow our U.S. Senators to be elected by the people and not through state legislatures. I‘D like to think that‘s a good thing. That is pro democracy. That happened because socialists in this country organized and we, um, influenced the process where moderates said, well, we‘re not going to abolish it, but we will in fact, allow for elections for--"
