BUTTIGIEG: "Well, hypothetically speaking, I think that it will be very important for. Our next, president and and anyone wanting to be in that discussion to be able to explain how to change the system itself, while getting good policies out of the system, and I think that means having some understanding of how Washington works. Without being a creature of Washington, it means having a sense of place and being rooted in a community without only being able to see the perspective of one particular place. One particular community- and I think communication has only become more important. I mentioned all of these policies. Expanding health care, higher minimum wage bearer taxes that enjoy sixty or seventy percent support among the American people. This presents a very obvious question if they’re sixty or seventy percent support for these ideas. By the way, I would add to that things that my party has historically been on defense about, like universal background checks on guns, If, if these popular ideas aren’t getting through. It raises the question of why, and I think part of that has to do with how we communicate and even more importantly than how we communicate where we communicate. I’ve noticed that leaders, whether we’re talking about people who want to be president or people running for mayor or anything in between, have been more effective when they’re willing to go everywhere and not everybody’s want to do that. Certainly, in my party again there’s a muscle memory, there’s a consultant wisdom that says: don’t go in and in any environment. That’s too spontaneous.
