Kamala Harris: ‘I Honestly Don’t Believe that It Will Be Anytime Soon that We Are Going To Revive the Voting Rights Act’

HARRIS: “I honestly don’t believe that it will be anytime soon that we are going to revive the Voting Rights Act. So, I don’t believe that it is going to be a good — the best use of our energy right now to try to get that done, because I don’t know that it’s going to get done right now the way this Congress is composed and the way they have been treating civil rights issues. I’m hopeful, but I don’t know that it’s going to happen anytime soon. So, I think part of it is we’ve got to think about now. And I was talking to this young woman about this. Now, when they have destroyed the infrastructure we built over decades and had in place with the Voting Rights Act for 50 years, how are we going to achieve the goal when that infrastructure has been destroyed? And we’re going to have to be creative. Part of it is these midterms are coming up and it will make a decision about who at least rules the Senate, if — I mean, the House, if not the Senate.”
