David Drucker: Republicans on the Hill Are Constantly Trying To Figure out Where the President Is on Issues

DRUCKER: “I think the best way to understand Trump, and this is why it's always very difficult to gauge him, and it's hard for Republicans on the Hill to sort of rally around anything, is Trump is angry and frustrated at whoever -- at whatever isn't working and whoever told him to do that. Right. So it's just -- you know, let's just presume that Secretary Rubio believes we should go into Iran that now is the time. And that is all well and good until it isn't working. Let's say that Vice President Vance tells him now's the time to cool our jets and try and establish a diplomatic deal. That's all well and good until it isn't working. And Republicans on the Hill, and I've experienced this over the past 10 years in talking to them, they're just constantly trying to figure out where the president is to begin with, because they don't want to be on the wrong side of him publicly. They don't mind being on the wrong side of him privately, and many of them will use private relationships that they have with him to steer him one way or the other. But they don't want to be seen as publicly opposed because the president gets angry at that, and then their own voters get angry at that.”
