Ret. Major Gen. Randy Manner: The Search and Rescue Operation in Iran Is ‘Extremely Complex’

‘It’s very dangerous work’

EXCERPT:

MANNER: “Yes, it’s extremely complex, and it does require a lot of sophisticated coordination among the air. And then those resources that may actually have to get down to the ground to inspect any kind of wreckage or anything else to determine, hopefully, of course, if the other person is alive, and if not, of course, to be able to extract the remains in the worst of cases, of course. So it’s very, very difficult. It’s very dangerous work. My son, actually, was an HC-130 pilot in charge of a crew like this in Afghanistan, when I was in Iraq, in Kuwait back in the day. So it is, again, you can imagine, every time he was flying, I was concerned about him and his crew as well. Hundreds of lives are at stake trying to save that one pilot, as it should be.”
