Eugene Robinson: The Cuts to the Staff ‘Will Result in Radically Different and Lesser Washington Post’

‘For 10 years, [Bezos] was a model newspaper owner’

EXCERPT:

ROBINSON: “You know, just one second, just to quote what Jeff Bezos said the day he bought the paper. He said, 'I don't think you can keep shrinking the business. You can be profitable and shrinking. And that's a survival strategy. But it ultimately leads to irrelevance at best. And at worst, it leads to extinction.' Now, those are his words, not mine. Yet, he seems to forget or abandon or renounce those words, because these cuts are like nothing we have seen before. And they will result in a radically different and lesser 'Washington Post.'”
