Peter Baker: Trump’s Willingness to Talk to the Media, Is in Contrast to His Denigration of the Media
RUSH EXCERPT:
BAKER: "Well, I mean, look, this is a president who’s never shied away from giving interviews even to publications and organizations that he doesn’t necessarily favor. It’s interesting, you know, put aside Fox News, which he’s always obviously talked to. He’s suing both The Wall Street Journal and The New York Times at this point, even as he’s giving interviews. So this is this, you know, his, his, his his appetite for media coverage, his appetite for attention, his his willingness to talk to the media, you know, is something that seems in contrast to his denigration of the media, his attacks on the media, his his legal and other otherwise, you know, use of government power against the media. And it’s just it’s just it’s one of the curious, you know, realities of this particular president. Now, the the interview he gave my colleague is fascinating on a number of levels. But to me, the most important thing that came out of it was his own description of how he sees his power. He was asked, does he think there are any limits on his power internationally? His global power? We’re talking about Venezuela, Greenland, things like that. And he says basically, no. The only limit on that is my own morality. That’s his phrase, my own morality. It’s what’s in my mind. So to him, he has unlimited power to do what he wants. And if you put that together with the quote from Stephen Miller earlier last week on CNN, where he said that the world is governed by power, what that means is it’s not a world governed by law. It’s not a world governed by standards or principles or treaties or what have you. It’s a it’s a world governed by somebody who can do something. Therefore he will do something."
