Rob D’Amico on the Nat’l Guard Deployment in D.C. Ruled Illegal: What’s Going on Is Part of America’s Democracy

‘You have to keep your head in the game’

RUSH EXCERPT:
D'AMICO: "It’s a tough one. And I look at it and if I was like, back in my marine days where I was a platoon commander and company commander, I literally tell them, look, we have a mission. The courts are doing their thing. That’s part of the us justice system. And the courts ruled one way, but they’re going to appeal, and we’re still here. We’re still doing the mission, and we’re still doing what we’re being told to do. Until some court of higher authority says, no, we’re not doing the mission anymore. And then you can then you can leave. You have to keep their head in the game. You have to say, look, all that stuff that’s going on is part of the democracy of America, the judicial system, the three parts of the government. And it’s going to come to a resolution at one point. But until that happens, we’re doing this. We’re doing it because we’re told to. And the courts are rectifying the other thing, and you have to be part of a mission until it’s until it’s over. And as mark said, I do hope that they come in and say, look, we were looking at the reason we’re bringing 500 more troops in. These two were in a group of two. We think groups of four and six are safer. So we’re going to up every patrol to make sure that there’s a minimum of four or something along those lines. And it’s not just that what I said before, emotional, but you still have to talk to the troops. You have to say, look, you may not even agree with it, but until the courts decide it, because that’s where it’s at right now, you have to keep your head in the game. You have to do this because we’re told to. And if there’s any issues, they have to pull people aside and talk to them about that. But it’s a tough one because they are being kind of, you know, back and forth. I think they’re, you know, somewhat political figures. But again, we have the courts to decide it. And until that’s done, the officers of these national guardsmen, the staff commission officers and ncos really have to keep on top of and say, we’re here until the court authoritatively says either we’re here or we’re not."
