Karen Bass: Congressional Hearings Will Start on Monday Pertaining to ICE Raids
TRANSCRIPT:
BASS: "Angelenos, it’s been five months since the raids started in Los Angeles. People being snatched off the streets, raids at Home Depot and at car washes, the terror that spread over our city for the last 5 months. It is not on headlines every day anymore like before, but these raids continue. I reached out to our Congress member Robert Garcia, who is the lead Democrat on the Government Investigation Committee, and I asked him if he would launch a congressional investigation into these abuses of our Constitution. Well, of course, he stepped up right away, and many other members of the congressional district did as well. And so we’re having our first congressional hearing on Monday, November 24th, Downtown Los Angeles, and we are going to be hearing testimony from people who have been detained, even U.S citizens, even people who were here legally because they were showing up to the immigration office, like they're supposed to, for their annual appointments and then snatched from families. But you know what, I have a heavy heart right now, because we’re going into the holiday season and how many fathers and mothers are missing? How many kids don’t understand what happened to their parents? How many kids are missing? So this has been a difficult year in Los Angeles, and we are going to establish a record so that in the future, when we are back in the majority in Congress and we can actually hold people accountable, that’s what we will do. But we will gather the record here, beginning on Monday."
