Ex-Obama Advisor Admits Chicagoans ‘Don’t Feel’ Safe’ — But ‘Don’t Trust’ Trump’s Crime Crackdown

‘And so the real question is, what is Donald Trump’s reasoning for doing this?’

EXCERPT:

HARDAWAY: “It’s a very interesting conversation because I think, generally speaking, violent crime is down 22% in Chicago, and the majority of people who live there don’t want federal troops being shipped into there with no clear plan on what’s going to happen. It’s also true that some of them don’t feel safe. And so, I think this is a very complicated situation that we should discuss through this lens. Donald Trump this year cut $820 million in federal grants for policing and public safety that goes to places like Chicago and beyond. Separately, he’s gutting the budgets of the FBI and the Justice Department and the ATF and everyone that keeps us safe. And so the real question is, what is Donald Trump’s reasoning for doing this? I don’t think people in Chicago trust his motives here. People want to be safe. But if we want to be safe, let’s do like Bill Clinton did in the 90s and hire 100,000 new cops to put on the street in Chicago, in Atlanta and New York and beyond. That’s the real strategy. I think people in Chicago don’t trust Donald Trump and they don’t trust his motives.”
