Rep. Smith on Hegseth Firing Top Military Officials: I’m Very Concerned, ‘Trump Is Weakening Our Intelligence Community’

SMITH: "Very. Trump is weakening our intelligence community and weakening our national security every day, because he’s demanding loyalty over ability and truth. You know, the dia offered up information he didn’t like, so he fired him. He’s done that before. We are building a government under Trump that is going to be incompetent. That is all about loyalty to Trump. And look, when you’re in national security, you have to be able to deliver bad news if it is the honest truth. You want people who are trying to find out exactly what’s going on, not hoping to please the boss and what we have right now in the intel community and in the Department of Defense, is a growing number of people who are simply there to please the boss. And if the information isn’t what he likes, then you’re in trouble. And that is going to weaken our ability to have accurate intelligence and a strong defense. It’s you know, it’s the reason we set up civil service in the first place. And look, this is the whole point. We were moving away from having a constitutional republic. We are having an autocratic government ruled by Trump that is not in the best interest of our national security."
