Rep. Smith on Redistricting: We Didn’t Pick This Fight, ‘Trump Chose to Engage’

‘President Trump doesn’t believe in literally any rules’

RUSH EXCERPT:
SMITH: "Well It’s one we have to fight. I mean, whether we can win it or not, we didn’t pick this fight. Trump chose to engage in it and chose to do this. And by the way, they’ve done this before in Florida, in North Carolina, in Ohio. So we have to fight as effectively as we can to get as far as we can down the road. Now, look, you look at the states. You look at where changes could be made. You can add up the map and maybe say at the end of it, we come out, you know, on the short end of the stick, but we’re going to come out worse if we don’t fight that. We have to push back in every conceivable place, try to stop the redistricting in places where we can, and then push forward with the California plan. And this this is not the way government should work. I understand that we should have a redistricting process that is separated from partizan politics. But as with everything else, President Trump doesn’t believe in literally any rules. I mean, he he will try to game the election in any way he can. And Democrats need to fight back. I strongly support the fact that governor Newsom has taken in California to, as he put it, fight fire with fire because the stakes couldn’t be higher. Look what Trump is doing to our federal government. Look at him using the military for domestic law enforcement, you know, shaking down law firms and media companies.
