Rep. Smith on the Ukraine War: The Trump Admin Needs to Put Pressure on Putin and Stop Blaming Ukraine
RUSH EXCERPT:
SMITH: "Yeah. It’s. A good question. What Trump. Has failed to do is he’s failed to put any pressure on Putin. I mean, I’m not sure if it’s his Trump’s incompetence as an international leader or whether or not its affinity for Vladimir Putin that has led us to this place. But it’s not complicated what the Trump Administration needs to do. They need to put pressure on Putin and support Ukraine, whether it’s sanctions, whether it’s promising to continue to send weapons to Ukraine, whether it’s simply stating that the war is Putin’s fault, he invaded Ukraine instead of blaming Zelenskyy, as he has done in the past. Look, Trump is bungling this. We had put together a 53 nation coalition that was helping Ukraine defend itself and has stopped Russia in its tracks in its invasion. The economy in Russia is going down. The casualty rates are appalling. There is pressure on Putin. And if President Trump could just continue, that could show unity and support for that 53 nation coalition promise to continue to defend Ukraine. That can force Putin to the bargaining table. But as long as he keeps giving Putin a pass and welcoming him back into the international community, Putin is going to keep pushing because Putin wants all of Ukraine. The only way this war stops is if he’s convinced that he can’t have it, and he has to settle for something else. the United States of America could be much more helpful in forcing that outcome. If President Trump would stand up and lead."
