Kim Strassel on Redistricting Fight: Democrats Did the Exact Same Thing in Illinois, New Jersey, Mass., Calif.

STRASSEL: "And I’m surprised that Democrats went down this road. Look, I can understand they’re unhappy about what happened in Texas. It was a pretty aggressive political move, bare knuckles, although, by the way, Republicans have taken a leaf from the Democrats who've done the exact same thing in Illinois, in New Jersey, in Massachusetts, in California. So here we are. And I think if they would have condemned it and walked away, that would have been one thing. Instead, they escalated. They said, 'We are going to change all of our rules, overrule our independent redistricting commissions and change our lines,' and that has just been an invitation to Republicans to escalate as well, too. And the reality is, Dana, when it comes down to it. Republicans have a lot more opportunity here to redistrict states in a way that advantaged them next mid-term over Democrats, because they’ve already done it to such an extreme degree in most of the blue states."
