Charlie Sykes: ‘We Are in a Period of Maximum Political Warfare’

‘Sooner or later you get this nuclear option’

EXCERPT:

SYKES: “Donald Trump said that out loud yesterday that we're entitled to five extra seats. But I mean, look at the at the vortex of escalation that we're in right now, the cycle. The whole point of mutual assured destruction was to detour extreme measures. But what happens if it doesn't detour? You know, then then you get the nuclear option, then you get the destruction. And so Democrats, I think, have come to a consensus very, very quickly that they are not simply going to stand aside and wring their hands and say, you know, we're going to, you know -- you know, take the -- the moral high ground, because, quite frankly, the alternative is electoral annihilation. So what we have and 'The New York Times' described this the other day, we are in a period of maximum political warfare. And the consequences, look, are going to be, you know, long, long, long lasting.”
