Maya Wiley: Trump Is ‘Only Escalating the Impression that He Has Something to Hide’ from Epstein Friendship

‘That’s the problem he is creating for himself’

EXCERPT:

WILEY: “I mean, he’s really making the effort to say, 'Don’t equate me with any of the things that Jeffrey Epstein or Ghislaine. Maxwell has done.' So could he just be embellishing to make his spin control point? Could be, he could be. Or is it that it’s a slip of the tongue and he’s saying more than he intends? We don’t know. But this just goes back to the first point, which is why? Why aren’t you just — if it’s political embarrassment, as opposed to something unlawful, all right, politicians have to make decisions all the time about whether to just take the pain hit about whatever the embarrassing thing is to make it clear there is no crime here. At this point, and I'm just speaking not legally, but politically, at this point, a lot of politicians say, 'Better to just get it over with, get it out there, deal with the embarrassment, the things that people will point to that are embarrassing to me, because what is worse is it looking like I committed a crime or was engaged or knew of crimes being committed, whether I directly committed them, but looking the other way.' I mean, whatever it is here, he is only escalating the impression that he has something to hide legally, as opposed to just trying to do spin. That’s the problem he is creating for himself."
