The Financial Times’ Greeley: ‘Pathetic,’ We’re America, ‘You Don’t Foreign Direct Invest in Us, We Foreign Direct Invest in You’

‘$600 billion — Okay — That also sounds like a lot of money’

EXCERPT:

GREELEY: “There’s no — there’s no plan as part of the tariff. But just as important, the other things that he got out of the deal don’t seem like that big of a deal. So, Europe agreed that they’re going to buy $750 billion in U.S. energy. Well, that energy was going to get sold no matter what. So that’s not new. They also agreed they were going to increase over the next three years foreign direct investment in the United States by $600 billion. OK, that also sounds like a lot of money, but it’s an increase, I just did the math, of 5 percent each year. It’s not that big of a deal and also it’s kind of pathetic. We’re the United States of America. You don’t foreign direct invest in us. We foreign direct invest in you.”
