Fmr. Congressman Dent on Tariffs: It’s Inexplicable but People Don’t Seem to Focus on Public Policy as Their Reason to Support Trump

DENT: Like, there. Are a lot of people out there who support Donald Trump, not because of his policies. They just like his shtick. You know, they just like they like him. They they they believe in him. They for whatever reason, they seem to think he is the guy with all the answers. Even when some of those policy prescriptions are answers, are are hurting them at the workplace. You know, if you’re a farmer, you supported Trump and now you’re worried about losing a lot of your labor, being deported. If you’re in a meat processing business and you supported Trump, well, guess what? It’s coming back at you. Or a lot of folks I know in business who supported Trump. And I said, well, you know, he’s going to impose tariffs, big taxes. And now they’re feeling the pain. And some are still support them. Others are questioning it. So there’s an incoherence to all of this that, you know, it’s almost inexplicable. But people just don’t seem to be focusing on public policy as their main reason for supporting, in this case, Donald Trump. And that’s where we are in this country, like it or not."
