Steve Clemons: The Trump Bill Is in the ‘Very Uncomfortable Category Politically’ for the Republican Party

CLEMONS: "Probably – either do the gamblers provision on the wailing captains. There’s a lot in this bill that the public has not seen or gotten their head around. The problem with the big beautiful bill, it’s really big. It creates a hypocrisy for many Republicans. It’s a auge win for Donald Trump. I agree. It’s an uncomfortable win for a lot of other Republicans, a lot of the pork and the carveoeos that remain in it. So there’s a lot in this bill that I would put in the very uncomfortable category politically for the Republican Party. But there’s no doubt that securing the tax cuts of 2017, the focucus on immigigtion. I agree with my colleagues. All of those are big winning for Donald Trump. There’s costs for this bill down the road. I’d say about the wailing captains, I didn’t know we had them. They turned out to be native alaskan whaling captains. They got a big tax carveout in this. Maybe they deserve that. Something that I didn’t know would be part of this or the parliamentarian would allow it in the bill."
