Kurt Knutson: ICE Block App Keeps Surging, Why Is Apple Allowing This on the App Store?

‘Apple Guidelines say it would be rejected’

EXCERPT:

KNUTSON: “But there is a real safety concern here for law enforcement and ICE agents that Acting Director Todd Lyons is really just saying this is sickening, and I have a really difficult time believing the disclosure that you see on the app that reads, 'Please note that the use of this app is for information and notification purposes only, it's not to be used for the purposes of inciting violence or interfering with law enforcement. Well, guess what? That’s exactly what it’s doing. Why is Apple allowing allowing this on the app store when its own app guidelines say it would be rejected? Now, according to Section 1.7 — I’m getting geeky on you here — app for reporting alleged criminal activity must involve local law enforcement and can only be offered in countries or regions where such involvement is active. That right there is enough to say no, this does not belong in the app store. Another part, Section 501, in their legal compliance section, 'Apps that solicit, promote or encourage criminal or clearly reckless behavior will be rejected.' So why is it there? We have some questions. We'd like an answer."
