STRANGIO: “And I think they have to tackle it head-on. I think — I will say, I personally was in the camp of ‘Don’t respond,’ and I think that was wrong. I think it was wrong to not respond. I think it was wrong to avoid tackling it head-on. I think there was a lot of misinformation that went unchallenged. We went into a spiral about the idea that trans people were taking over the world when we’re less than 1% of the population. And people have an outsized understanding of our presence in their lives, when ultimately most of us can’t even, you know, get through the day without facing discrimination. And the idea that we are this all-powerful community is patently ridiculous when you look at the material conditions that transgender people face in the United States and around the world.”
