Mauro: It Would Be a Nightmare to Attend NATO Summit, Press for an Increased Spending and Have Dead NATO Soldiers in the Middle East

‘He had to calculate was how safe will our b-2 bombers be, and how safe it will be from retaliation’

EXCERPT:

MAURO: "Well, it shows you just how difficult the job of the president is. And all I can say is imagine the team of Biden, Blinken, Jake Sullivan handling all of these intertwined issues, right, because Europe has its own Middle Eastern immigration issues as well, right? They've had the equivalent of an open southern border. And think about this. They have troops. We have the NATO mission in Iraq ongoing in Baghdad. So when the time came for Donald Trump to say, I'm going to pull the trigger on bombing Iran's nuclear facilities, part of that calculus had to be, am I putting NATO assets in -- assets inside of Baghdad at risk? Because aside from the American blood and treasure, what a nightmare it would be to have to go into this summit, press for an increase in spending vis-a-vis Russia, China, the Middle Eastern countries, what a nightmare it would be if you had dead NATO soldiers or diminished --"
SMITH: "Yeah."
MAURO: "-- NATO assets in the Middle East. So that's part of the calculus.”
