Rick Stengel: ‘Troublesome,’ ‘Scary’ Is Trump Talking About Regime Change

STENGEL: "I think it’s a real distinction, and I think it’s the right one. I thought the vice president asserted it in exactly the right way. In a way, he did what the Obama Administration did in the Iran deal, which was to decouple regime change from the nuclear threat. What is troublesome and scary today is, is Donald Trump resurrecting the idea of regime change. That is the potential expansion that Mike and Evelyn were worried about. It would be great if this was a one and done thing, and I hope the United States and Iran are actually communicating in some way. I mean, I would say the American president should say, 'Look, we just wanted to do this one time. You start negotiating, we’ll settle the whole thing.' But again, if I’m a betting man, I’m betting that that ain’t going to happen."
