Dem Strategist on ‘No Kings’ Protests: The Opposition to Trump Is More United Now Than It Was 8 Yrs. Ago

‘These were everyday moms and dads, folks who probably in the past may not have really been politicized, but they have been because of Donald Trump and because of his overreach’

EXCERPT:

PAYNE: “Chris, I think folks have the appropriate reaction to No Kings, which is, one, the opposition is alive and well. I think there’s this story that’s told that, when Trump won eight years ago, there was more opposition and it was more united. I actually think it’s more united now. And by the way, it’s broader, it’s more diverse. There are more normies. Yes, I represent MoveOn, which traditionally is a more progressive organization, but the folks that you saw out in, you know, cities and states all across the country, they weren’t all grassroots progressive donors and folks like that. These were everyday moms and dads, folks who probably in the past may not have really been politicized, but they have been because of Donald Trump and because of his overreach. And so, I actually think you’re seeing a broader, a more diverse and a more sustained opposition to Donald Trump this time than you did 8 years ago.”
