Richard Blumenthal: Donald Trump’s Military Parade Was Actually ‘a Celebration of Himself’
EXCERPT:
BLUMENTHAL: “I’m Richard Blumenthal, senator from Connecticut, and I have something to say. Donald Trump is throwing himself a military parade, in effect, a birthday celebration for himself, not a parade for the army, which truly deserves its 250th birthday celebrated. Donald Trump doesn’t know what it means to put service before himself. When I think of service, I think of Ben Cooper. Remember the greatest generation, a World War II veteran who helped to liberate Europe, as well as the concentration camp at Dachau? He is the kind of person who deserves a parade in his honor, not Donald Trump, who, if he really cared about veterans, would be using the $45 million for this parade to help prevent veteran suicide, to rehire the veterans who have been fired from the VA, to provide better health care for those veterans when they have disabilities like exposure to burn pits, and to make sure that veterans have more job opportunities and skills.”
