GOP Rep. Van Duyne: The Big Beautiful Bill Is ‘a Good First Step’

‘There’s a lot of additional cuts in government spending that I would love to see happen’

EXCERPT:

VAN DUYNE: "I've seen what you guys have reported, I've seen what some of our senators have said. I think it’s a strong bill. It's not a perfect bill. There’s a lot of additional cuts in government spending that I would love to see happen. I would love to have them go back to pre-Covid levels of spending. I think what we had done with our SALT provisions, I think it was excessive, especially for states like New York and in California to be able to take money from hardworking folks in Texas, but the bill was what we were able to get. And what it does is it advances a number of the priorities of this administration that America is behind, whether or not that's supporting with resources what Tom Homan and Kristi Noem are doing, has resulted in a 98% decrease in crossings, illegal crossings at our border. It’s helping unleash American energy. It is extending the tax provisions that helped grow the economy back in 2017. It is putting as much money in people’s pockets as possible. And it’s really kind of pushing for more manufacturing to be done in our country and to be brought over from other countries. It is a good bill. It is a good first step. And I am anxious for the Senate to hurry up, kick it back over to us, so we can get it on the president’s desk and signed before July 4th."
