Dan Goldman: Inspector Gen. Horowitz Is ‘Independent’ But When He Turns to Patel and Bondi, They’re Under Trump’s ‘Political Thumb’

‘Pretty much every other inspector general has been removed by Donald Trump’

EXCERPT:

GOLDMAN: "Well, the interesting thing about the Department of Justice is that the inspector general there is Michael Horowitz, and he has remained there, he has been the inspector general for some time. Pretty much every other inspector general has been removed by Donald Trump because he, again, does not want there to be any accountability for him or his executive branch. But Michael Horowitz is an independent inspector general. I don’t know what he will do with this letter, whether he will actually investigate it. Usually he refers it to a different section of the Department of Justice that investigates these ethics accusations, but he can’t do that here. Realistically, he cannot do that because whatever other section he goes to is under the political thumb of Donald Trump, Pam Bondi, Kash Patel. And so it really is incumbent upon Michael Horowitz, if he’s going to do his job as an independent inspector general, to take on this investigation and to see whether or not there is a legitimate predicate for initiating an investigation into somebody who, by all accounts, just said things that Donald Trump doesn’t like."
