Dan Goldman: Trump Going After ‘Enemies,’ Non-Profit, Universities, Arts Is the ‘Authoritarian Playbook’ to Nullify Accountability

‘So now that allows him to do his corruption’

EXCERPT:

GOLDMAN: “He undermined the FBI and the Department of Justice to a tremendous degree during the special counsel investigation and then — both Special Counsel Mueller and then Jack Smith. Now he’s pardoning all of the January 6th violent criminals who assaulted law enforcement officers at his behest, so he is letting them off. They now have even more loyalty to him, and we know they’re violent. He’s created a militia. He fired all the inspectors general. He’s gutted the public integrity section. He is going after law firms, people who will take him to court. He is going after his own enemies, Miles Taylor, Chris Krebs. He’s going after nonprofits. He’s going after universities. He’s going after arts, the Kennedy Center. This is the authoritarian playbook, is to nullify and eviscerate every form of accountability. So now that allows him to do his corruption. And members of Congress, who seem to be trading on inside information in advance of his tariff announcements, don’t have to worry about any investigation. But if you say something that he doesn’t like on the other side, if you’re LaMonica McIver, who’s doing your oversight responsibilities, you will be arrested. It is a massive, massive attack on our fundamental rule of law. Michael, you hit the nail on the head. And it is multi-pronged. It has -- we have to see the big picture here to make sure we truly understand what’s going on. And Miles and Ras Baraka are just yet two more examples of it."
