Peter Baker: Even as Trump Is Criticizing Putin, He Feels the Need to ‘Both-Sides It’ and Also Attack Zelenskyy

‘So, in his mind, Ukraine is a corrupt country, Ukraine, in fact, isn’t really even a viable independent state’

EXCERPT:

BAKER: “Zelenskyy has played Trump a little bit more cautiously in the last few weeks since that meltdown in the Oval Office, along the lines that European allies have advised him trying not to -- to poke the bear too much, not to anger Trump too much. But there's no love lost there by President Trump for President Zelenskyy. So I think even as he's criticizing President Putin, which is a new thing, really, he feels a need to sort of both-sides it and make sure to also say President Zelenskyy is at fault.”
