Peter Hotez Says He Refused to Debate RFK Jr. Because ‘That’s Not How We Do Science’
EXCERPT:
HOTEZ: “I felt that they were really wanted me out there to sort of schmooze him up to -- to make him look like an important, because at that time he was running for president and -- and they wanted to back him for president. They -- I think they wanted to show him with a serious scientist to help his political campaign. And I -- and I didn't want to help him do that. But the third reason was I felt it sent the wrong message of -- to scientists, that's not how we do science, right? I mean, you know we do science through writing our papers and peer-reviewed journals and we -- we submit grants that don't get discussed or do get discussed and reviewed in scientific meetings. I didn't want to send the message that science is done by a debate with crackpots.”
