Sen. Smith: The Trump Bill Is Big, But There’s Nothing Beautiful About It, Health Insurance Is Taken Away from Millions of Americans

‘These Republicans kind of continue to just walk in lockstep with the president’

RUSH EXCERPT:
SMITH: "Well. Thank you, reverend sharpton. I’m so glad to be with you today. You are right. This bill is big, but there is nothing that is beautiful about it. The way that it takes health insurance away from millions of Americans is going to raise people’s costs. It’s going to hurt families in Minnesota. You know, Medicaid is the single largest insurance cover in my state. So when people lose health insurance, they don’t stop getting sick. They just don’t have a way of paying for it. I think that this is a real moment for my Republican colleagues in the Senate. I really would like to believe all we need is four of them to say, no, we’re not going to do this, and I hope that that’s what they decide. It’s hard to feel optimistic about this, though. I mean, let’s be honest, these Republicans kind of continue to just walk in lockstep with the president. But this is going to be a real test because their districts, their states read parts of my state are in many ways arguably going to be hurt worse, because that’s where more people are who rely on Medicaid, more people per capita who rely on nutrition assistance and snap. So it’s going to hit people hard. It’s going to hurt people."
