Baker on Trump’s $4T Budget Deficit: You’ll See a Test of Whether He’s Able to Enforce His Will on Senate Republicans
RUSH EXCERPT:
BAKER: "Well, your eyes are closed. You might be thinking you’re listening to actual Republicans. Normal Republican orthodoxy, of course, is to be concerned about the deficit, to be concerned about the national debt. And that’s something that has gone, you know, unsaid in a lot of ways over the last number of years with Trump in office. That’s never been his particular passion. He was never a fiscal hawk. He likes to spend money. He likes debt. He once called himself the king of debt in terms of his businesses. So that’s never been his priority. And you’re going to see now a test of whether or not he’s able to enforce his will on these bulky Senate Republicans, or can they find some way of finagling it? Can they find some way of finessing it so that it looks like they’ve gotten at least some compromise out of him and then go along with him? I think in the end, of course, they don’t want to completely, you know, be on the wrong side of Donald Trump. So the question is, what kind of compromise could you come up with? Because everybody a face saving, right. And then can you get back to them?"
