Clemons: Trump Is Using Levers to Pressure Harvard, Because They Depend on Paying International Students

‘He’s doing what he’s doing on trade, he’s negotiating about other things’

RUSH EXCERPT:
CLEMONS: "It’s a tit for tat spitting match. I have to tell you, as a guy that sort of followed America’s technological process, the wars we fought, America has succeeded by being the brain drain problem for the rest of the world. Having the world’s smartest people come to this country, many of them stick here. We’re a land of immigrants. To some degree while this is not just immigration, has to do with the broader side of what America’s brand is, I think what is going on here is Donald Trump is using other levers to put pressure on Harvard university because Harvard university and most universities depend upon full paying international students in their programs. If that is jeopardized, you throw off the economic equation not just for Harvard but others around the United States. Donald Trump senses that is a sense of power that can bring these universities around on other issues. He’s doing what he’s doing on trade. He’s negotiating about other things."
